I met Hayley through gigging with Genius Collective. She was the lead vocalist for an incredible band called The Bluebeat Arkestra. I also worked with the trumpeter Carol Whitworth on some music which will be released at some point!

Accentuate started life in my old rehearsal room and studio - Street Soul - in Birmingham (before I moved to The Beat Oven with Urban Monk). The track started as a jam with Steve Sheldon on guitar, Matt Salmon on keys and Ben Smith on sax. It was a loosie until I met Hayley and it was immediately clear she was the missing link. The vocals were recorded at Blue Whale Studios where I used to teach, and once Hayley’s parts were complete Donnie Numeric got involved with the perfect verse to compliment Hayley’s concept.

This is a feel good track with a timeless element to it. It’s great to hear my old band mates on this one. It brings back some great memories of my first community studio too.
